The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001440 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 0.2756-inch diameter, a 118-degree standard drill point, and a web-thinned tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip clearance. At 6.125 inches overall length with a 4.031-inch spiral flute, it provides extended reach compared to jobber-length bits without sacrificing rigidity. The straight shank and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill chucks and CNC toolholding systems used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators.
The 6001440 is suited for production and maintenance drilling in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys, brass, bronze, copper, magnesium alloys, nickel alloys, reinforced plastics, graphite, and cermet. The taper length format is commonly chosen when drilling through thicker workpieces or in applications where a standard jobber-length bit cannot reach. It performs well in both hand-held and machine setups including drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. This is a Series 5ATL bit conforming to DIN 340 specification.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit conforming to DIN 340, the 6001440 is suitable for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks and toolholding systems accepting a 0.2756-inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using standard drill press, lathe, or CNC equipment. Secure the straight shank firmly in a compatible chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits to prevent bit deflection or premature wear. Always power down and de-energize or lock out the machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant as recommended for the workpiece material, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery.
