The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001401 is a No. 44 wire-gauge aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications in metalworking and aerospace-related fabrication. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, it measures 12 inches in overall length with a 1.125-inch spiral flute. The 135-degree split point is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing the walking and thrust force common with standard jobber bits. The straight-cylindrical shank diameter is 0.086 inches, matching the No. 44 wire gauge drill size. Two right-hand flutes and a tapered web configuration promote chip evacuation during extended-reach cuts. This bit is suited for installation by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and industrial trade professionals.
The 6001401 is built for general-purpose drilling in sheet metal, structural aluminum, mild steel, and similar materials where standard-length bits cannot reach. The 12-inch overall length makes it practical for drilling through deep assemblies, structural panels, or access-restricted areas common in aircraft, HVAC equipment cabinets, and industrial fabrication. Series 501-12 designates this as a standard aircraft extension configuration conforming to NAS 907 Type B. The 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance in through-hole drilling at extended depths.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and pneumatic or electric drill motors accepting a 0.086-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This drill bit is installed and operated by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, and industrial fabricators using handheld or stationary drilling equipment. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible chuck before operation to prevent slippage under torque. Maintain appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the workpiece material to avoid overheating the HSS tool. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
