The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001338 is a 13/64 inch (0.2031 inch decimal) high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the work area. Built to NAS 907 Type B standards, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on entry. The spiral flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction clear chips efficiently through the 2-7/16 inch (2.4375 inch decimal) flute length. An oxide finish provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during use.
This drill bit is suited for aerospace, aviation maintenance, and general metalworking applications that require extended reach into confined or deep structural assemblies. The 12-inch overall length makes it practical for drilling through panels, frames, and structural members where access is restricted. It is commonly used by aircraft maintenance technicians, sheet metal workers, and industrial machinists working on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Series 500-12 designation places it within a recognized aircraft extension drill family.
Designed as an OEM-style aircraft extension drill bit conforming to NAS 907 Type B, compatible with standard 13/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank drill chucks used in portable electric drills, drill presses, and pneumatic right-angle drills common in aviation and sheet metal work.
Installation is performed by machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, or sheet metal workers using standard drill chuck equipment. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before use and confirm the work piece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the material being drilled to extend bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the split point for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged point will reduce self-centering performance and hole accuracy.
