The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001226 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit engineered for deep-reach drilling applications where a standard-length bit cannot access the workpiece. Built to Series 501-12 specifications, it features a 135-degree split point for self-centering entry without a center punch, reducing walking on hard or curved surfaces. The 0.228-inch diameter corresponds to Wire Size 1 and matches a straight-cylindrical shank of the same diameter for secure chuck retention. At 12 inches overall length with a 2.625-inch spiral flute, this bit gives mechanics, aerospace technicians, and structural tradespeople the reach needed for confined or layered assemblies. An oxide finish provides baseline lubricity and corrosion resistance during use.
This extension drill is suited for production and maintenance drilling in aerospace, aviation, automotive, and general fabrication environments. The 135-degree split point and web-thinned, tapered web construction reduce thrust load and improve chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 4xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio supports controlled chip clearing in moderate-depth holes. It is a right-hand cutting tool and is installed in standard three-jaw chucks or drill motors used by aircraft mechanics, structural ironworkers, and sheet metal technicians.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose aircraft extension drill meeting NAS 907 standards, suitable for use with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 0.228-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Install this bit in a properly rated drill motor or press using a three-jaw chuck, ensuring the shank is fully seated and tightened before operation. Verify spindle speed is appropriate for the material and bit diameter before cutting. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection when drilling. Inspect the bit for wear or damage before each use and replace if the cutting edges are chipped or the flutes are clogged.
