The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001218 is a 7/32 inch (0.2188 inch decimal) high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot access the work area. Built to Series 500-6 specifications, it features a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch on most surfaces. The oxide finish reduces friction and helps resist corrosion during use. With a 2.5-inch spiral flute length and a 6-inch overall length, this bit delivers the reach and chip clearance needed for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication and aerospace-adjacent work.
This extension drill is suited for right-hand drilling in steel, aluminum, and similar metals in applications where access depth is limited by standard drill geometry. The 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports adequate chip evacuation during extended-reach cuts. It is commonly used by aircraft maintenance technicians, sheet metal workers, and industrial maintenance professionals working inside panels, frames, or confined structural sections. Sold individually, it fits any standard drill or drill press accepting a straight cylindrical shank.
Designed as a general-purpose aircraft extension drill bit compatible with any standard drill, drill press, or drill motor accepting a 7/32 inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists, aircraft maintenance technicians, or industrial maintenance personnel familiar with drill press and handheld drill operation. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm the shank is fully seated and locked in the chuck before applying power. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Follow applicable shop safety standards and, for aviation maintenance applications, adhere to relevant FAA-accepted maintenance procedures.
