The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001204 is a high speed steel aircraft extension drill bit designed for deep-reach drilling in metalworking and aerospace fabrication applications. Built to Series 500-6 specifications, it features a 135-degree split point that is self-centering and web-thinned, reducing walking and cutting entry force on hard substrates. The 3/8 inch diameter bit carries a 3.625 inch flute length on a 6 inch overall body, giving it the extended reach needed to drill through structural assemblies, frames, and stacked materials where standard-length bits cannot access. The oxide finish provides baseline corrosion resistance. Licensed HVAC sheet-metal fabricators, aircraft maintenance technicians, and industrial machinists are the primary installers of this tool.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including aluminum aircraft skins, steel structural members, and similar materials encountered in general-purpose industrial and aerospace-adjacent work. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently during through-drilling. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard 3/8 inch and larger drill chucks without adapters, making it compatible with corded and pneumatic drill motors common on job sites and in machine shops. The extended flute-to-diameter ratio of 4xD allows drilling in confined or recessed locations that standard jobber-length bits cannot reach.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct supply drill bit for general-purpose and aircraft-quality drilling applications requiring a 3/8 inch diameter, 6 inch overall length, straight shank bit conforming to NAS 907 Type B.
Install into a properly rated drill chuck, ensuring the shank is fully seated and the chuck key is tightened before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling steel to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Follow applicable shop safety procedures, including eye protection and secure workpiece fixturing, before drilling. Inspect the cutting edges and web condition before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
