The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6001020 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for general-purpose drilling in metal, cast iron, and similar materials. It carries a 2MT (Morse Taper 2) shank for direct mounting in compatible drill presses, lathes, and milling machines without a separate chuck. The bit is ground from high speed steel with an oxide finish that provides light lubricity and corrosion resistance. At 0.689 inches (17.50 mm) in diameter and 9 inches overall length, it covers medium-to-large hole applications where rigidity and accurate sizing are required. The 118-degree standard point angle suits a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces.
This drill bit is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where a Morse taper spindle is available. Typical applications include drilling through structural steel, plate, and similar stock on a drill press or lathe. The right-hand spiral flute and web-thinned point reduce thrust and improve chip evacuation, making it practical for production and job-shop use. It conforms to DIN 345 standards and belongs to the Series 5ATS line. No coolant-through capability is present, so conventional flood or mist cooling at the cutting zone is recommended for extended runs.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) spindle or tailstock. A 2MT drill sleeve or socket may be used to adapt to larger taper spindles.
Installation requires a machine spindle or tailstock with a No. 2 Morse Taper bore; ensure the taper surfaces are clean and free of burrs before seating the shank. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. Use a drift key through the spindle slot to eject the bit — never strike the shank directly. A licensed machinist or qualified tradesperson should verify spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter before drilling.
