The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000814 is a taper shank drill bit engineered for high-performance metal drilling in demanding shop and field environments. It carries a 2MT (Morse Taper 2) shank for direct mounting in compatible drill press spindles, lathes, and milling machine quills. The cutting diameter is 33/64 inch (0.5156 inches decimal), and the bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a gold oxide finish that reduces friction and resists heat buildup during drilling. The 135-degree notched point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. Installation and use are suited to machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance trades.
This drill bit is suited to production and maintenance drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a rigid, self-holding taper shank is preferred over a straight shank. The 2MT shank seats directly in Morse Taper 2 spindles without a chuck, making it a practical choice for drill press, lathe tailstock, and turret applications. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix provides consistent chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole work. The gold oxide finish is appropriate for general-purpose steel, cast iron, and similar materials.
Designed for use in drill press spindles, lathe tailstocks, and milling machine quills fitted with a Morse Taper 2 (2MT) socket. Verify spindle taper designation before installation.
Install and remove taper shank bits only with the spindle at a complete stop and the machine de-energized. Seat the taper fully into a clean, dry 2MT socket and use a drift key and soft mallet for removal — never pry against the flute or apply lateral force to the shank. Inspect the taper and socket for burrs, chips, or oil contamination before seating, as surface contamination will prevent full contact and can cause the bit to spin or eject under load. Follow applicable ANSI B11 machine safety standards and the equipment manufacturer's operating procedures.
