The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000811 is a taper shank drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal and other hard materials. It features a 31/64 inch (0.4844 inches) diameter, a No. 2 Morse taper shank for secure spindle engagement, and a 135-degree notched point that reduces thrust and self-centers on curved or irregular surfaces. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a gold oxide finish that improves lubricity and provides mild corrosion resistance during storage and use. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and industrial maintenance mechanics are the primary users of this bit in drill press and milling machine applications.
This drill bit is suited for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 2 Morse taper spindle or sleeve. The 8.25-inch overall length and 4.375-inch spiral flute length make it appropriate for moderate-depth holes in ferrous metals, non-ferrous alloys, and plastics in both production and maintenance environments. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine spindle rotation. The web-thinned design reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation, which is particularly useful when drilling steel at higher feed rates.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines fitted with a No. 2 Morse taper spindle or adapter sleeve. Suitable as an OEM-style replacement or shop-stock drill bit in any machine tool that accepts a 2MT straight-shank or taper-shank toolholder.
Installation requires a clean, undamaged No. 2 Morse taper socket; remove any chips or oil film from both the shank and the socket before seating to ensure full contact. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing the bit. Use a proper drift and a soft-faced mallet to remove the bit from the spindle — do not strike the spindle directly. Verify spindle speed against recommended surface footage for the workpiece material before starting a cut.
