The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000783 is a taper shank drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and heavy-duty shop applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a gold oxide finish, it delivers a 25/32 inch (0.7813 inch) cutting diameter and a 135-degree notched point that reduces walking and improves centering on entry. The 3MT (Morse Taper 3) shank seats directly into compatible drill press spindles and lathes, eliminating the need for a separate chuck. Overall length is 10.625 inches with a 6-inch spiral flute engineered for right-hand cutting with regular spiral geometry. Manufactured to ANSI standards and classified under the Series 209CO, this bit is a shop-floor tool for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians.
This drill bit is suited for production drilling and maintenance operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a 3MT spindle is available. Typical applications include drilling through structural steel, cast iron, and similar materials on drill presses, lathes, and milling machines with a No. 3 Morse Taper socket. The 4xD flute-length-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderate-depth holes. Web thinning at the point reduces thrust requirements, making it appropriate for both manual feed and power-feed setups. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 3 Morse Taper (3MT) spindle socket. Verify spindle taper designation before installation.
Installation of taper shank drill bits should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the bit taper and the spindle socket with a clean cloth before insertion to ensure full contact and prevent slippage. Use a drift and dead blow mallet to remove the bit from the spindle; never force or pry from the flute area.
