The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000417 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in industrial and trade environments. The bit measures 39/64 inch (0.6094 inch decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2 inch chucks despite the larger cutting diameter. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, and the 118-degree split point angle promotes accurate starting and reduces walking on hard surfaces. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabrication professionals are the primary installers of this bit.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The Series R56CO reduced shank design makes it practical for use in drill presses, CNC equipment, or hand-held power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. Right-hand spiral flute geometry clears chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. The bright uncoated finish is appropriate for general-purpose metal cutting where a specialty coating is not required.
Designed as a reduced shank replacement-style drill bit compatible with any drill press, milling machine, or power drill fitted with a standard 1/2 inch chuck. Primary workpiece materials are ferrous metals; secondary compatibility includes aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials per Series R56CO specifications.
This bit is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians in a 1/2 inch drill chuck — verify chuck jaw condition and tighten securely before operation. Always power down and de-energize or lock out the machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant as required by the workpiece material, even though the bit itself is rated for dry cutting. Wear ANSI-rated eye protection and secure the workpiece firmly before drilling.
