The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000402 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for demanding metal drilling applications in industrial and trade settings. It features a 33/64 inch (0.5156 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, making it compatible with standard 1/2 inch chucks without requiring a larger chuck capacity. The 118-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements. Cobalt construction provides heat resistance and edge retention when drilling hard ferrous metals and other tough materials. This bit is part of the Series R56CO line and ships with a bright, uncoated finish.
This bit is suited for machining and fabrication environments where right-hand spiral flute bits are required for through-hole and deep drilling operations. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal. Secondary applications include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The 3 inch flute length supports a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches, and the 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it appropriate for standard-depth drilling without pecking cycles in most setups. It is used by machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and industrial maintenance technicians.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch drill chucks on standard drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills. Rated for ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic workpiece materials. No coolant-through capability; external cutting fluid application is recommended for extended cuts in hard materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with metal drilling operations. Secure the workpiece fully before drilling and confirm chuck is tightened to the shank before operation. When drilling hard or heat-sensitive alloys such as titanium or nickel, apply cutting fluid externally to extend tool life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or dulling is observed.
