The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000386 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for demanding drilling applications in ferrous metals and other hard materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel, this bit delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 27/32 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing use in standard 1/2 inch chucks while accessing larger bore sizes. The 118-degree split point promotes fast starting and reduces walking without a center punch. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, giving a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches. The bright, uncoated finish suits shops that re-sharpen their tooling regularly.
This bit is suited for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and maintenance technicians who need to bore oversized holes through ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, nickel alloys, titanium, and magnesium. The reduced shank design extends usability to standard 1/2 inch drill chucks and magnetic drill presses without sacrificing cutting diameter. The Series R56CO designation places it in PRECISION TWIST DRILL's cobalt reduced-shank line, built to ANSI standards. Typical applications include structural steel fabrication, pipe fitting, equipment maintenance, and HVAC sheet-metal work requiring holes larger than 3/4 inch.
Designed for use in 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chucks and magnetic drill press units. Suitable for drilling ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel alloys, titanium, and synthetic materials per Series R56CO application ratings.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals following applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the shank is fully seated and tightened in the chuck before applying power. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals or hard alloys to extend tool life and maintain bit geometry. Do not exceed the rated drilling depth of 3 inches and back out frequently to clear chips when drilling deep holes.
