The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000381 is a 5/16 inch (0.3125 inches) taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard drill point and a right-hand spiral flute for efficient chip evacuation. The flute length measures 4 inches, and the overall length is 6-3/8 inches, giving it additional reach compared to a jobber-length bit. It carries a straight shank with a 0.3125 inch diameter, fits standard drill chucks, and belongs to Precision Twist Drill Series R51. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, electricians, and mechanical contractors use this bit for structural and equipment-installation drilling applications.
This bit is suited for drilling in both shop and field environments where extended reach into workpieces is needed. It is commonly used in light fabrication, equipment mounting, and trade installation work. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio and tapered web configuration make it effective in materials including alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, stainless steel, nickel alloys, magnesium alloys, malleable iron, graphite, reinforced plastics, and high-strength bronze. It conforms to ANSI standards and is classified as a general-purpose grade tool.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.3125 inch straight shank. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
This bit is installed by electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general mechanical tradespeople using standard corded or cordless drills and drill presses. Always secure the workpiece before drilling and use appropriate cutting fluid when working with ferrous or stainless materials to extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before use and replace if chipped or dull to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage. Follow applicable workplace safety standards when operating rotary cutting tools.
