The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000371 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose hole drilling in a wide range of metallic and non-metallic materials. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit measures 47/64 inch (0.7344 inches) in diameter and carries a standard 118-degree point angle. The overall length is 9-3/4 inches, with a spiral flute length of 5-7/8 inches at a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. It is installed by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metalworking tradespeople on drill presses, lathes, and hand-held power drills.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in shops, fabrication facilities, and field service environments. The straight shank at 0.7344 inches diameter seats directly into standard drill chucks without an adapter. The taper length body provides added reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it useful in applications where standard-length bits cannot access the workpiece. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length replacement or production drill bit suitable for use with standard drill chucks accepting a 47/64 inch straight shank. Verified material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, stainless steel, nickel alloys, magnesium alloys, and reinforced plastics.
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified mechanical tradesperson. Secure the straight shank fully in a keyed or keyless drill chuck before operation, and verify the chuck is tightened to prevent slippage under load. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drilling equipment. Reduce feed rate when breaking through the exit side of the workpiece to prevent bit walking or workpiece damage.
