The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000310 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 0.3160 inch diameter, an 118-degree standard point angle, and a straight shank. The spiral flute design and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and help reduce thrust during drilling. At 6.5 inches overall length with a 4.125-inch flute length, this Series R55 bit provides extended reach compared to jobber-length equivalents. It is sized as Letter O and cuts in a right-hand direction. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators install this bit in standard drill presses, lathes, and hand-held drilling equipment.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in both shop and field environments. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio makes it practical for deeper hole applications where a jobber-length bit cannot reach. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Sold individually as a single-piece unit.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collets accepting a 0.3160 inch straight shank. Suitable for use in drill presses, milling machines, lathes, and hand drilling equipment.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified technicians familiar with drill press and hand-tool operation. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Always power down the machine and bring the spindle to a complete stop before changing bits or adjusting workpiece position. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life, unless the application specifically requires dry drilling.
