The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000271 is a 1/2-inch diameter extra length high speed steel drill bit designed for drilling applications that require extended reach beyond standard-length tooling. Built to ANSI standards, it features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning for improved penetration and reduced thrust. The spiral flute design and right-hand cutting direction handle a wide range of materials including aluminum, copper, nickel, titanium, and magnesium. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in conventional drill chucks. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators reach for this bit when standard-length drills cannot access a deep or recessed bore location.
This bit is suited for production and general-purpose drilling in metalworking shops, maintenance facilities, and field fabrication environments. The 12xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives it the extra flute length needed to clear chips on deep-hole passes. Primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium. Secondary materials include stainless steel, hardened steel, nickel alloy, malleable iron, high strength bronze, magnesium alloy, reinforced plastic, and steel. The tapered web configuration reduces walking at entry and supports cleaner hole geometry through the full depth of cut.
Designed for use with standard drill chucks accepting a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium. Compatible secondary workpiece materials include hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, stainless steel, and steel.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with a 1/2-inch or larger chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent movement. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to manage heat and extend tool life, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is observed.
