The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000261 is a taper length, high speed steel (HSS) drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. It measures 7/16 inch (0.4375 inches) in diameter with a standard 118-degree point angle and a bright, uncoated finish. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting resistance. At 7.25 inches overall length with a 4.625-inch flute, this bit provides extended reach compared to a jobber-length drill while maintaining a straight shank for standard chuck compatibility. Licensed tradespeople and machinists use this bit for production and maintenance drilling where added flute length is needed.
This drill bit is suited for drilling operations in residential, commercial, and light industrial environments. The R51 series taper length format gives it an advantage in applications where access depth exceeds what a jobber-length bit can reach. Compatible materials include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Right-hand cut orientation is standard for use with conventional drill presses, hand drills, and CNC spindles.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.4375-inch straight shank. Suitable for use in drill presses, hand drills, and CNC machines running right-hand rotation.
Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before beginning any drilling operation and verify the bit runs true before cutting. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling hardened steel, stainless steel, or cast iron to extend tool life, even though this bit does not feature through-coolant capability. Ensure the workpiece is firmly clamped and the drill press table or fixture is locked before engaging the bit. Inspect the cutting edges and web area for wear or damage before each use, as a dull or chipped bit increases heat and can cause workpiece damage or bit failure.
