The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000238 is a high speed steel extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits fall short. It carries a 0.42 inch diameter, a 12 inch overall length, and a 9 inch spiral flute length, making it well suited for reaching into deep bores or through thick stock without repositioning. The point is ground to 118 degrees with web thinning applied to reduce thrust and improve chip flow at the start of the cut. Cutting direction is right hand. This bit is uncoated and intended for general-purpose use across a wide range of workpiece materials. Licensed tradespeople and machining professionals install and operate this tool on standard drill presses, lathes, and hand-held power equipment.
The 6000238 is built for drilling aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium as primary workpiece materials. It also performs in secondary applications involving stainless steel, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel alloy, reinforced plastics, and general steel. The extended 12 inch OAL makes it a practical choice when drilling through structural members, deep flanges, long tubes, or stacked material where reach is the limiting factor. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks without requiring a taper adapter.
Designed as an OEM-style general purpose extra length drill bit conforming to ANSI standards, Series 1290. Compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks that accept a straight cylindrical shank up to 0.4219 inches in diameter, as used on drill presses, milling machines, and power hand drills.
Secure the straight cylindrical shank fully into the drill chuck and verify it is centered before operation. Always match spindle speed and feed rate to the workpiece material and bit diameter following published machining data tables. Use appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
