The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000212 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit measures 0.0465 inches in diameter, corresponding to wire gauge size 56, with a 118-degree standard point angle. The overall length is 2.25 inches, and the flute length is 1.125 inches, yielding a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio that provides added reach compared to a jobber-length bit. The tapered web configuration and web-thinned point reduce thrust at entry and help center the bit cleanly. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. This bit conforms to ANSI standards and belongs to the Series R52 line.
This drill bit is suited for light-duty precision drilling in fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications. The 0.0465-inch diameter and taper length make it practical for drilling pilot holes, small through-holes, and clearance holes in tight or deep-reach situations. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working across metal and non-metal substrates are the primary users of this size range.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit for use with standard straight-shank drill chucks across a wide variety of manual and CNC drilling applications in metals, plastics, and composite materials.
Install this bit into a compatible straight-shank drill chuck and verify that the chuck jaws fully seat against the shank before operation. At 0.0465 inches in diameter, the bit is susceptible to breakage if side-loaded or run at excessive feed rates — use appropriate spindle speeds and light, consistent feed pressure for the material being drilled. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent walking at drill entry. Replace the bit if the cutting edge shows signs of dulling, as a worn edge at this diameter increases breakage risk significantly.
