The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000184 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for drilling ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials including aluminum, copper, nickel, titanium, and magnesium. The bit features a 45/64 inch (0.7031 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard 1/2 inch chucks and holders. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it carries a 118-degree standard point angle suited for general-purpose drilling across production and maintenance applications. The three-flat Weldon shank prevents rotation under load during high-torque operations.
This drill bit is intended for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material. Secondary materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic composites, and titanium. The reduced shank design allows a larger cutting diameter to be used with standard 1/2 inch tool holders, making it a practical choice for machine shops, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working with equipment that lacks larger chuck capacity. The 3 inch flute length supports drilling to a maximum depth of 3 inches, and the right-hand spiral flute design provides efficient chip evacuation during cuts.
Designed for use in 1/2 inch Weldon-style tool holders and chucks. Compatible with ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material; secondary compatible materials include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic composites, and titanium. Conforms to ANSI standards per Series R57.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using standard drill press, milling machine, or handheld power tool setups equipped with a 1/2 inch Weldon-capable chuck or holder. Ensure the machine is fully de-energized and the spindle is locked before inserting or removing the bit. Verify the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the setscrew in the tool holder and tighten securely before operation. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and ANSI B11 machine tool standards when setting up drilling operations.
