The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000177 is a taper length high speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of metals and materials. It measures 0.0785 inches in diameter, corresponding to wire gauge size 47, and features a 118-degree standard point angle with a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved chip clearance and reduced thrust. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for HSS tooling intended for general shop use. Overall length is 4.25 inches with a flute length of 2.25 inches, giving it a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for drilling deeper than a jobber-length bit allows without stepping up to a full extension bit.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling in metalworking, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trade environments. Its taper length body provides added reach in applications where standard jobber bits fall short, such as drilling through structural members, deep flanges, or stacked sheet metal. The right-hand spiral flute design is compatible with conventional drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling setups running standard clockwise spindle rotation. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard straight-shank drill chucks. Suitable for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Install in a standard drill chuck rated for the shank diameter before applying power. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped before beginning any drilling operation. Apply appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, hardened steel, or other tough alloys to extend tool life and improve hole quality. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable standards when operating drilling equipment.
