The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000173 is a taper length, high speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. It measures 0.0810 inches in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle and a bright, uncoated finish. The spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, tapered web configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced thrust during drilling. At 4.25 inches overall length with a 2.25-inch flute length, this bit provides extended reach compared to a jobber-length drill. It is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals requiring precise, small-diameter hole making.
The 6000173 is suited for use in general-purpose drilling applications in both shop and field environments. Its straight shank and right-hand cut make it compatible with standard drill chucks on handheld drills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers. The extended taper length is particularly useful when drilling in recessed areas or through thicker stock where a jobber-length bit would not reach. Material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit fitting standard straight-shank drill chucks; compatible with the broad range of workpiece materials listed in the Material Application data, per Series R52 specifications.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with drilling operations. Secure the straight shank firmly in the drill chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance for small-diameter bits. When drilling hardened or stainless materials, use appropriate cutting fluid to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — small-diameter bits are susceptible to breakage if subjected to excessive side load or feed pressure.
