The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000138 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for boring large-diameter holes in ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials. It carries a 1-9/16 inch cutting diameter on a 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to fit standard 3/4 inch drill chucks without requiring a larger capacity machine. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish and ground to a 118-degree standard point angle. With a 3 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, it suits general-purpose production and maintenance drilling in shop and field environments. Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, pipefitters, and HVAC fabricators.
This bit belongs to the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R58 and is intended for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metal as its primary workpiece material. Secondary compatible materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic composites, and titanium. The right-hand cut and regular spiral flute geometry suit conventional drill press and hand-held drilling operations. The reduced shank design makes this large-diameter bit accessible on machines with 3/4 inch chuck capacity, expanding its usefulness across a wide range of shop equipment without a dedicated large-chuck spindle.
Designed for use in standard 3/4 inch drill chucks on drill presses, magnetic drills, and similar equipment. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal; secondary workpiece materials per manufacturer data include aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic, and titanium.
Secure the reduced shank fully in the chuck and verify the set screw or chuck jaws are properly tightened before operation. Power down and de-energize or lock out the drilling machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for extended runs in hard ferrous materials, even though the bit is rated for dry use. Worn bits should be reground or replaced rather than run at reduced cutting diameter to avoid workpiece damage.
