The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000074 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. The body is machined from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. It features a 1-13/16 inch cutting diameter paired with a 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to chuck into standard drill presses and machine spindles that would not otherwise accept a full-size shank. The 118-degree standard point angle is the conventional geometry for all-around metal drilling. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, giving a maximum drilling depth of 3 inches.
This bit is suited for production and maintenance drilling on ferrous metal workpieces including structural steel, plate, and fabricated components. Secondary material compatibility includes aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. It is intended for right-hand rotation on drill presses, knee mills, and manual or CNC machining centers. The reduced shank design makes large-diameter drilling accessible on machines with smaller spindle capacities. This is a Series R58 general-purpose tool appropriate for both job shop and industrial maintenance environments.
Compatible with primary workpiece materials including ferrous metals, and secondary materials including aluminum, cermet, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic materials, and titanium. Conforms to ANSI standards. Part of the PRECISION TWIST DRILL Series R58 general-purpose reduced shank line.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance trades. Before mounting, confirm the drill chuck or collet is rated for a 3/4 inch shank diameter and that the spindle is fully de-energized and locked out before tool changes. Secure the shank fully in the chuck to the depth recommended by the machine manufacturer to prevent slippage under the torque loads generated by a large-diameter bit. Do not exceed the speed and feed recommendations published for high speed steel tooling in the workpiece material being drilled; running at excessive speed without coolant will shorten tool life significantly.
