The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000041 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, nickel, titanium, and other common workpiece materials. It features a 63/64 inch (0.9844 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard 1/2 inch chuck toolholding without the need for a larger spindle bore. The 118-degree standard point angle is a proven general-purpose geometry suitable for a wide range of materials and drill press or milling machine applications. This bit is manufactured from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish and belongs to the Series R57 line.
This drill bit is suited for machine shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where a large-diameter hole must be drilled using a 1/2 inch capacity chuck or collet. The reduced shank design makes it practical for benchtop drill presses, knee mills, and portable magnetic drills that cannot accommodate a full 63/64 inch shank. With a 3 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, it handles moderate drilling depths in structural steel, plate, bar stock, aluminum extrusions, copper, and similar materials. It is a right-hand cut tool intended for conventional clockwise spindle rotation.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2 inch capacity drill chucks, Weldon-style end mill holders, and side-lock toolholding systems on drill presses, milling machines, and magnetic base drills. Suitable for ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials per Series R57 application ratings.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance trades using standard 1/2 inch Weldon-style side-lock holders; ensure the set screw engages one of the three flats on the shank to prevent rotation under load. Secure the workpiece fully before drilling and apply a cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling ferrous metals to manage heat and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, particularly when working with hard ferrous alloys.
