The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000023 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, titanium, and other common workpiece materials. The bit measures 51/64 inch (0.7969 inch decimal) in diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard half-inch chucks and holders. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, giving the tool a 4xD flute-to-diameter ratio. Ground to a 118-degree standard point angle with a right-hand spiral flute, the R57 series geometry suits production and maintenance drilling in a wide range of shop and field applications. The bright, uncoated finish is suitable for use without coolant.
This drill bit is used in applications where the hole diameter exceeds the available chuck capacity and a reduced shank is required to fit standard 1/2 inch tooling. Typical settings include machine shop work, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments where drilling into ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, or synthetic materials is required. The Weldon shank with three flats resists slippage under torque, making it appropriate for use in milling machine collets and end mill holders as well as drill press chucks.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2 inch drill chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style collet systems. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, synthetic, and titanium workpiece materials per Series R57 specifications.
This bit is installed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians using standard 1/2 inch toolholders. Ensure the chuck or collet is fully tightened against the Weldon flats before operation to prevent shank slippage. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before changing tooling. Follow the machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable ANSI safety standards for drill press and milling machine operation.
