The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000017 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication and machining applications. It features a 33/64 inch (0.5156 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing secure clamping in side-lock toolholders without slippage. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish and ground to a standard 118-degree point angle for clean entry into a wide range of workpiece materials. This bit is part of the Series R57 line and is suited for use in drill presses, milling machines, and CNC setups where a reduced shank accommodates a smaller spindle or collet.
This drill bit is rated for ferrous metal as its primary workpiece material and is also rated for secondary materials including aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The right-hand spiral flute geometry with a regular spiral type provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling. It is a practical general-purpose choice for job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments requiring a mid-size reduced shank drill at standard tolerances.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2 inch side-lock Weldon toolholders, drill chucks, and collet systems accepting a 1/2 inch shank diameter. Conforms to ANSI standards.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool-and-die technician familiar with drill press, mill, or CNC spindle setups. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the bit from the toolholder. Verify the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the set screw in the side-lock holder and that the set screw is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Operate within the recommended cutting speeds and feeds for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool wear or breakage.
