The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 6000013 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and trade work. The bit measures 1-1/16 inches (1.0625 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2-inch capacity drill presses and hand drills without requiring a larger chuck. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length. The 118-degree standard point angle and bright uncoated high speed steel construction make it a dependable choice for production and field use where frequent resharpening may be required.
This drill bit is suited for ferrous metal drilling applications including steel plate, structural steel, pipe, and cast iron, as well as secondary materials such as aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials. The reduced shank design extends the usable diameter range of a 1/2-inch chuck beyond what a full-shank bit would allow. It is commonly used by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and pipefitters drilling large-diameter access, mounting, or penetration holes in sheet metal, angle iron, and structural members. The Series R56 designation identifies it within the Precision Twist Drill standard catalog line.
Designed for use in any drill press or hand drill with a 1/2-inch capacity chuck. Compatible with ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials per Series R56 general-purpose specifications. Meets ANSI standards.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using a drill press or heavy-duty hand drill with a 1/2-inch chuck. Secure the workpiece before drilling and use cutting fluid or a suitable lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole quality. This bit is not rated for coolant-through operation. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and resharpen or replace when point wear is visible to avoid overheating and workpiece damage.
