The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999986 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and other common materials. It features a 35/64 inch (0.5469 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to be used in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks. The 118-degree standard point angle provides reliable starting and consistent hole geometry. Built from high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it is suited for everyday production and maintenance drilling tasks performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators.
This bit is intended for drilling ferrous metals as its primary application, and is also rated for use in aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The reduced shank design makes a larger-diameter bit accessible to setups limited to 1/2 inch chuck capacity. With a 3 inch flute length and 6 inch overall length, it provides sufficient depth capacity for through-holes in moderate stock thickness. It is well suited for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills in shop and field environments.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2 inch drill chucks; rated for ferrous metals as the primary workpiece material and also suitable for aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet per Series R56 specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a drill press, milling machine, or power drill equipped with a 1/2 inch or larger chuck. Secure the reduced shank fully in the chuck jaws before operation to prevent slippage. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured before drilling. No coolant is required per spec, but cutting fluid may be applied at the operator's discretion for extended tool life on hard ferrous stock.
