The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999962 is a reduced shank twist drill bit manufactured from high speed steel for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. It carries a 23/32 inch (0.7188 inch decimal) cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to be chucked in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks despite its larger cutting diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle suits flat-entry drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, providing adequate chip clearance for holes up to 3 inches deep. The bright, uncoated finish is standard for general HSS tooling.
This bit is suited for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials in production and maintenance environments. The reduced shank design makes it practical on drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills equipped with 1/2 inch chucks, bridging the gap when a larger chuck is unavailable. It is commonly used in fabrication shops, HVAC duct work, plumbing rough-in, and electrical panel work where 23/32 inch clearance holes are required. Series R56 is a standard-length, regular-spiral line intended for everyday production drilling.
Designed for use in any 1/2 inch keyed or keyless drill chuck. Compatible with ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials as noted in the product specifications. Conforms to ANSI standards for reduced shank drill bits.
A licensed machinist or qualified trade professional should secure the shank fully in a properly rated 1/2 inch chuck before drilling. Power down and de-energize any machine tool before inserting or removing the bit. Use appropriate workpiece clamping — never hand-hold metal workpieces during drilling. This bit is specified for dry cutting; no coolant through-hole is present, so apply cutting fluid externally when drilling harder ferrous metals to extend tool life.
