The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999899 is a reduced shank twist drill bit machined from high speed steel and designed for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The bit measures 1-3/32 inches (1.0938 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2-inch drill chucks without requiring a larger spindle bore. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, a 118-degree standard point angle, and a bright uncoated finish. It cuts right-hand with a regular spiral flute and carries an ANSI standard designation under Series R56.
This bit is suited for drilling through ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials in fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical contractor work. The reduced shank design makes an otherwise large-diameter bit usable in common 1/2-inch capacity drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand drills without a specialized chuck. Typical applications include pipe flange holes, structural steel work, HVAC equipment panels, and general sheet-metal or plate drilling where a full-shank bit of this diameter would require a larger machine.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2-inch capacity drill chuck. Rated for use in ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic workpiece materials per manufacturer specifications.
This bit is installed and operated by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, or mechanical contractors using a drill press, magnetic base drill, or 1/2-inch capacity hand drill. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling ferrous metals or deep holes to extend tool life, even though the bit is rated for dry use. Always wear eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
