The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999888 is a high speed steel extra length drill bit designed for deep-hole drilling applications where standard-length bits cannot reach. Built to ANSI standards, this bit features a 1/2 inch diameter, an 18 inch overall length, and a 13 inch spiral flute length that allows chip evacuation even in deep bores. The 118 degree standard point angle with web thinning reduces thrust requirements and improves centering on entry. The bright, uncoated finish is suited for use with cutting fluids. Machinists, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors reach for extra length bits when drilling through structural members, deep castings, or stacked material where clearance is the limiting factor.
This bit is intended for use in drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held heavy-duty electric drills in both shop and field settings. Its primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials. Secondary materials include stainless steel, nickel alloys, malleable iron, reinforced plastics, high strength bronze, and hardened steel. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. Series 1813 is a general purpose extra length line suitable for production drilling and jobsite use across multiple material types.
Designed as a general purpose extra length drill bit compatible with standard 1/2 inch keyed and keyless drill chucks on drill presses, magnetic base drills, and heavy-duty portable electric drills. Primary workpiece materials include aluminum, magnesium, copper, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials; secondary materials include stainless steel, nickel alloys, malleable iron, reinforced plastics, high strength bronze, and hardened steel.
Extra length drill bits should be installed by a qualified machinist or experienced tradesperson familiar with deep-hole drilling techniques. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and use a center punch or spot drill to prevent walking at entry. Reduce feed rate compared to standard length bits to minimize deflection across the extended flute. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and clear chips frequently to prevent packing in the flutes.
