The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999860 is a reduced shank, high speed steel twist drill bit built for general-purpose hole-making in metal fabrication, maintenance, and mechanical trade work. The bit measures 1-1/8 inches (1.125 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2-inch capacity drill presses and hand drills without requiring a larger chuck. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, and the 118-degree standard point angle is suitable for most ferrous and non-ferrous drilling applications. Finish is bright/uncoated, and the right-hand spiral flute design provides efficient chip evacuation during cuts.
This drill bit is sized for applications where a full-shank bit would exceed the available chuck capacity. The reduced shank design makes a 1-1/8-inch diameter cut accessible on standard 1/2-inch drill presses and portable drill equipment. It is used in sheet metal shops, HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in, electrical conduit work, and general industrial maintenance. Compatible workpiece materials include ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and various synthetic materials, making it a versatile choice across trade disciplines.
Designed for use with 1/2-inch capacity drill chucks on drill presses and portable drills. Suitable for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, and synthetic materials as noted in the manufacturer specifications.
This bit is installed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or trade professional using a drill press or hand drill with a 1/2-inch chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or follow the no-coolant specification depending on workpiece material. Follow applicable shop safety practices and ANSI standards for rotating tool operation.
