The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999777 is a taper shank drill bit designed for drilling precise, clean holes in metal and general-purpose materials. It carries a 17/32 inch (0.5313 inch) cutting diameter and mounts via a 1MT (Morse Taper 1) shank, seating directly into compatible drill press spindles or lathe tailstocks without a separate chuck. The bit is manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish for basic corrosion resistance and reduced friction. At 8 inches overall length with a 4-5/8 inch spiral flute, it offers solid reach for deeper hole applications. The 118-degree standard point with web thinning allows clean entry and reduces the feed force required at the start of the cut. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole drilling operations.
This bit is suited for general-purpose metalworking applications in job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments. It fits drill presses, milling machines, and lathe tailstocks that accept a Morse Taper 1 shank. The regular spiral and standard point geometry make it appropriate for drilling mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials where a general-purpose HSS bit meets the job requirement. It conforms to ANSI standards and belongs to the S209 series from PRECISION TWIST DRILL.
Designed for use in drill presses, milling machines, and lathe tailstocks equipped with a Morse Taper 1 (1MT) spindle socket. Suitable for general-purpose drilling in mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with Morse taper tooling. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and the taper socket is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the shank. Insert the taper shank with the tang aligned to the drift slot and drive firmly to seat. Use a proper drift and mallet to eject the bit — never force the bit out by striking the flutes or body.
