The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999776 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it measures 33/64 inch (0.5156 inches) in diameter and carries an overall length of 8 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle and web-thinned, tapered web configuration support clean entry and reduced thrust, making it a reliable choice for production and maintenance drilling applications. The Series R51 designation identifies it within PRECISION TWIST DRILL's general-purpose taper length line.
This drill bit is suited for use on metal-working lathes, drill presses, and hand-held drilling equipment in both shop and field environments. The taper length body provides additional flute length compared to a jobber-length bit, giving machinists and maintenance technicians more reach for deeper-hole applications without stepping up to a longer extended-length drill. It is appropriate for use in machine shops, fabrication facilities, and industrial maintenance settings where a 33/64-inch diameter hole is required in a variety of workpiece materials.
Designed for drilling alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Straight shank fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks sized to accept a 0.5156-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and verify that chuck jaws are fully tightened around the straight shank before energizing the spindle. Select an appropriate cutting speed and feed rate for the workpiece material to avoid premature tool wear or workpiece damage. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow shop safety protocols when operating drilling equipment.
