The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999748 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved penetration and reduced thrust. The straight shank measures 27/64 inch (0.4219 inches) in diameter and the overall length is 7.25 inches, with a 4.625-inch spiral flute length at a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio. Right-hand cut with regular spiral geometry. This bit meets ANSI standards and is suited for use by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and trade professionals working in metal fabrication, HVAC, and plumbing rough-in.
This drill bit is rated for use in alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Its taper length body provides additional rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a practical choice for deeper holes where a jobber bit would flex or wander. Suited for both production and maintenance drilling applications.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and machine spindles accepting a 27/64 inch straight shank. Suitable for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills configured for straight-shank tooling.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before drilling. De-energize and lock out any machine before changing or inspecting tooling per standard OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling hardened steel or stainless steel to extend tool life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if edge integrity is compromised.
