The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999737 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute. The bit measures 0.1520 inches in diameter (Wire Size 24) with a 3-inch flute length and an overall length of 5-3/8 inches. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust at the cutting tip and improves chip evacuation, making it suitable for production and maintenance drilling across metal fabrication, mechanical, and general trade applications.
This drill bit is suited for use in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and trade environments where a taper-length bit is required for reaching into deeper or offset hole locations. The 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides additional reach compared to jobber-length bits. It is compatible with standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1520-inch straight shank and is appropriate for hand-held power drills, drill presses, and milling machine setups. The Series R52 designation places it within PRECISION TWIST DRILL's general-purpose ANSI-standard line.
Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel. Accepts any standard drill chuck sized for a 0.1520-inch straight shank.
Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before operation. Power down and lock out any drill press or machine tool before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling harder materials such as stainless steel or hardened steel to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged.
