The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999736 is a taper length drill bit designed for general-purpose hole-making in a wide range of materials. Built from high speed steel with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation at entry. The spiral flute runs 6 inches in length on a 25/32-inch (0.7812 inches) straight shank, giving it an overall length of 9-7/8 inches. Right-hand cut geometry follows standard shop practice. This bit suits production and maintenance drilling operations performed by machinists, millwrights, and trade mechanics.
The 5999736 is suited for drilling alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high strength bronze, copper, nickel, nickel alloy, magnesium, magnesium alloy, cermet, graphite, and reinforced plastic materials. Its taper length body provides extra reach compared to jobber-length bits, making it practical for deeper hole applications in structural components, frames, and fabricated assemblies where a standard-length bit falls short.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks and drill press spindles accepting a 25/32-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by machinists and trade mechanics using a drill press, magnetic base drill, or hand-held power drill equipped with an appropriate chuck capacity. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life, particularly when drilling stainless steel or nickel alloys. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
