The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999722 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in professional shop and field environments. It measures 21/32 inch (0.6562 inches) in diameter with a 9-inch overall length and a 5-1/8-inch flute length, giving it extra reach compared to a jobber-length bit. The 118-degree standard point is web-thinned to reduce thrust and improve starting accuracy. The bright, uncoated high speed steel construction makes the bit easy to inspect for wear and resharpen in the field. Machinists, maintenance mechanics, and fabricators install this bit in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC setups for through-hole and deep-hole work.
This drill bit fits a wide range of material applications including alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, malleable iron, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, high strength bronze, copper, magnesium, magnesium alloy, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastics, graphite, cermet, and hardened steel. It is part of the Series R51 lineup, engineered to ANSI standards for consistent diameter tolerance and interchangeability. The taper length body is well suited to applications where a jobber bit lacks the reach needed to clear a thick workpiece or fixture.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit for use in standard three-jaw chucks and drill press spindles accepting a 0.6563-inch straight shank. Compatible with the material types listed above per Series R51 application data.
Taper length drill bits are installed by machinists and maintenance mechanics using a drill press, milling machine, or heavy-duty hand drill with a keyed or keyless chuck rated for the shank diameter. Always power down and lock out the machine before securing or removing the bit. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous metals and stainless steel to extend tool life and manage heat buildup. Do not exceed the drill press or machine spindle speed recommendation for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
