The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999707 is a taper length, straight-shank drill bit designed for general-purpose hole drilling across a wide range of materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright/uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle and a right-hand spiral flute. The bit measures 17/32 inch (0.5313 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 8 inches and a flute length of 4-3/4 inches, giving it a 6xD flute-to-diameter ratio. The web is thinned with a tapered web configuration for improved penetration and chip clearance. This bit is intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tradespeople performing production or field drilling operations.
The 5999707 is suited for both shop and field applications where a longer reach than a jobber-length bit is needed without moving to a full aircraft-extension length. Its general-purpose grade makes it appropriate for a broad range of drilling tasks on metal, plastic, and composite materials. Compatible materials include alloy steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, brass, bronze, carbon steel, cast iron, cermet, copper, graphite, hardened steel, high strength bronze, magnesium, magnesium alloy, malleable iron, nickel, nickel alloy, reinforced plastic materials, and stainless steel.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard 3-jaw drill chucks and milling machine spindles accepting a 17/32 inch straight shank. Rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, nickel alloys, magnesium alloys, and reinforced plastic materials.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained technician following shop safety protocols. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before operation, and verify chuck key is removed before starting the spindle. Apply cutting fluid or coolant externally as appropriate for the workpiece material, since this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point is damaged.
