The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999705 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built to DIN 338 and ANSI standards, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. The straw oxide finish provides a degree of lubricity and heat resistance during high-speed cutting operations. At 5.2344 inches overall length with a 3.4219-inch flute length, it handles jobber-depth holes in a standard drill chuck or drill press spindle. Intended for use by machinists, maintenance technicians, and metalworking trades.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous alloys, consistent with its P, M, K, N, and S workpiece material codes. The web-thinned, tapered web design reduces cutting resistance and improves chip evacuation on through-holes and blind holes alike. It fits standard drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held drilling equipment that accept a straight cylindrical shank. The 8xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports moderate drilling depths without the need for peck-drilling cycles on most material types.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill compatible with any drill press, benchtop machine, or hand drill accepting a 10.50 mm (0.4134 inch) straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for workpiece materials coded P, M, K, N, and S per DIN classification, covering steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar non-ferrous materials.
Secure the shank fully in a keyless or keyed chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits to avoid premature wear. Power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Use cutting fluid or a suitable metalworking lubricant when drilling steel to prolong bit life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use; a worn 135-degree point should be reground or replaced rather than run at reduced feed.
