The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999699 is a cobalt high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in steel and other demanding workpiece materials. It measures 10.20 mm (0.4016 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 5-15/64 inches (133.00 mm) and a flute length of 3-27/64 inches (87.00 mm). The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a conventional 118-degree point. The straw oxide finish provides mild lubricity and corrosion resistance during storage and cutting. Web-thinned construction and a tapered web improve chip clearance in deeper holes. This bit is suited for licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors working with ferrous metals.
The 5999699 is rated for general-purpose and heavy-duty drilling in steel (P), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous metals (N), and high-temperature alloys (S) under standard shop conditions. The straight cylindrical shank accommodates standard keyless and keyed drill chucks on bench drills, CNC machining centers, and portable magnetic-base drills. The regular spiral flute geometry and 9xD flute-to-diameter ratio make this bit a practical fit for through-hole and blind-hole work in structural steel, plate, pipe, and fabricated assemblies. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant is applied externally when required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute jobber drill for general-purpose drilling applications in steel and compatible materials per DIN 338 and ANSI specifications. Compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 10.20 mm (0.4016-inch) straight shank.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or qualified tradespeople using standard drill press, mill, or handheld equipment. Secure the shank fully in a calibrated chuck and verify runout before drilling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or external coolant to manage heat buildup when drilling steel, as this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use and regrind or replace when edge geometry degrades to avoid workpiece damage or bit breakage.
