The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999677 is a reduced shank twist drill bit manufactured from high speed steel for general-purpose drilling in metal and other common materials. It features a 53/64 inch (0.8281 inch decimal) drill diameter paired with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical reduced shank, allowing it to fit standard 1/2 inch chucks even though the cutting diameter is larger. The 118-degree standard point angle provides a reliable, self-centering entry suitable for a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The bright, uncoated finish is a traditional choice for HSS tooling used in general shop and field drilling applications.
This drill bit is suited for use in drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held electric drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck. Primary workpiece materials include ferrous metals and steel. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. The Series R56 designation places it within PRECISION TWIST DRILL's standard reduced shank line, sized for jobs where a full-shank bit of this diameter would exceed available chuck capacity. Machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and industrial tradespeople commonly use this bit for structural, fabrication, and maintenance drilling tasks.
Designed for use in any drill press, magnetic drill, or power drill with a 1/2 inch capacity chuck. Meets ANSI standards for reduced shank drill bits. Compatible with ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic, and cermet workpiece materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Install the shank fully into the chuck jaws and tighten securely before drilling. Always power down and disconnect the drill or press before changing bits. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent movement during drilling. Follow applicable ANSI and shop safety standards for rotating cutting tools.
