The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999648 is a cobalt high-speed steel jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous materials in demanding shop and field applications. The bit features a 135-degree split point with web thinning for fast, accurate starts without center punching on most surfaces. At 1.45 mm (0.0571 inches) in diameter and 1-37/64 inches overall length, it is sized for tight-tolerance work in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production drilling. The oxide and bronze straw coating provides baseline lubricity and heat resistance during chip evacuation. Two regular-spiral flutes clear chips efficiently in straight-through drilling passes.
This drill bit is suited for drilling steel, stainless, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials in general-purpose production and maintenance environments. The DIN 338 specification and ANSI standards make it compatible with European and North American tooling systems. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks and CNC collets without adapters. Machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance mechanics working with small-diameter work will find this bit appropriate for precision hole placement in metal substrates. The 12xD flute-by-diameter ratio supports the 18 mm flute depth for controlled chip flow at this size.
Designed as an OEM-style general-purpose jobber drill for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet systems accepting a 1.45 mm straight shank. Rated for primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, and S per the supplier specification, covering steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and heat-resistant alloys.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance mechanic should secure the shank fully in the drill chuck or collet before operation. Ensure the drill press, hand drill, or CNC spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for steel applications to extend tool life, noting that this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Follow applicable ANSI and shop-floor safety standards for small-diameter bit handling, as bits in this size range are susceptible to breakage under side-loading or excessive feed pressure.
