The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999584 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial applications. The bit measures 49/64 inch (0.7656 inch decimal) in cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to be chucked in standard 1/2 inch drill chucks regardless of the larger cutting diameter. Constructed from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle suited for drilling ferrous metals and a wide range of secondary materials. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during drilling operations.
This Series R56 drill bit is intended for use in ferrous metal as the primary workpiece material, and is also rated for use in aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet. It is well suited for production shops, maintenance technicians, and machinists who need a larger diameter hole but are limited to a 1/2 inch capacity chuck. The reduced shank design makes this bit practical for use with standard bench drill presses, hand drills, and drill press equipment without requiring a larger chuck or collet setup.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with any 1/2 inch capacity drill chuck. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal. Also rated for aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, synthetic materials, and cermet per manufacturer specifications.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified shop personnel using a standard 1/2 inch drill chuck on a drill press or hand drill. Ensure the chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before drilling. No coolant is required per manufacturer spec, though cutting fluid may be applied at the operator's discretion for extended tool life on ferrous materials. Inspect the bit for wear or damage before each use and replace if the cutting edges are chipped or the point geometry is degraded.
