The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999554 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into ferrous metals and a range of secondary materials. The bit measures 1-11/32 inches (1.3438 inches decimal) in cutting diameter with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat securely in compatible chucks and reduce slippage under torque. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length. Made from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, this bit is built for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling. It carries a 118-degree standard point angle suited for starting on flat or slightly curved surfaces without a center punch in many applications. Machinists, pipefitters, and HVAC sheet metal technicians commonly reach for this type of bit.
This drill bit is intended for use in drill presses, milling machines, and magnetic base drills where a 1/2 inch Weldon shank is the standard holding method. The reduced shank design allows a larger cutting diameter to be driven from a standard 1/2 inch toolholder, expanding the range of hole sizes achievable without upgrading to a larger spindle. Primary workpiece material is ferrous metal. Secondary materials include aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic materials. The Series R57 designation places this bit within PRECISION TWIST DRILL's general-purpose reduced shank line. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations.
Designed for use in any drill press, knee mill, or magnetic drill equipped with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank chuck or collet holder. Suitable for general-purpose hole-making in ferrous metal, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, titanium, cermet, and synthetic workpiece materials.
Install the shank fully into the toolholder and tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat before operating. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement during drilling. Always reduce spindle speed appropriately when drilling larger-diameter holes in hard or work-hardening materials. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing bits or adjusting toolholder hardware.
