The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999543 is a reduced shank twist drill bit machined from high-speed steel for general-purpose metal drilling applications. The bit measures 1-1/2 inches in cutting diameter with a reduced 1/2-inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat in standard 1/2-inch drill chucks and collet holders without requiring a full-size spindle bore. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3-inch flute length, providing adequate depth capacity for most production and maintenance drilling tasks. The 118-degree standard point angle is ground for fast engagement on ferrous metals and nonferrous alloys. This bit is part of the Series R57 line and ships in a bright, uncoated finish.
This drill bit is suited for use in machine shops, fabrication facilities, maintenance departments, and field service environments where oversized holes are required but available machinery is limited to a 1/2-inch chuck capacity. The reduced shank design makes a 1-1/2-inch diameter cut accessible on standard drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills without an adapter. Typical workpiece materials include ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel alloys, titanium, and synthetic materials. No coolant-through capability is included; external cutting fluid application is recommended for extended run cycles or harder alloys.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2-inch capacity drill chucks and Weldon-style collet holders on drill presses, magnetic base drills, and hand-held power drills. Rated for drilling ferrous metals, aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel alloys, titanium, and synthetic materials.
Installation is performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or skilled trades personnel using a drill press, magnetic drill, or heavy-duty hand drill equipped with a 1/2-inch Weldon-compatible chuck or collet. Secure the Weldon flat fully against the chuck set screw before operation to prevent shank slippage under load. Apply a suitable cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hard alloys or running extended cycles without coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive dullness is observed.
