The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999401 is a No. 36 wire-size jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of materials. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) and finished with a steam oxide coating to reduce friction and inhibit corrosion, this bit features a 118-degree standard point angle, two spiral flutes in a regular helix, and a straight-cylindrical shank measuring 0.1065 inches in diameter. Overall length is 2.5 inches, with a flute length of 1.4375 inches and a maximum drilling depth of 1.4375 inches. The web is thinned and tapered for improved penetration and reduced thrust. Machining professionals and maintenance technicians install this bit in standard drill presses, hand drills, and CNC equipment.
This jobber drill is suited for drilling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. It performs reliably in production and maintenance environments where a No. 36 diameter hole is required. The 0.1065-inch decimal diameter makes it a practical choice for tapping prep, clearance holes, and precision hole-location work across both ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. It conforms to ANSI standards and meets NAS 907 specification, making it appropriate for aerospace and industrial applications.
Fits any standard straight-shank drill chuck accepting a 0.1065-inch shank. Part of the Series R10A-R15A-R18A jobber drill family from PRECISION TWIST DRILL. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S).
Install in a calibrated chuck and verify runout before drilling to maintain hole accuracy at this small diameter. Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent walking or deflection. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel, superalloys, or titanium to manage heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — HSS bits at small diameters are susceptible to chipping if run at incorrect speeds or fed with excessive force.
