The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5999373 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding shop and field applications. Built from high speed steel with a coated finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point and a web-thinned, tapered web configuration that reduces walking and cutting resistance at the start of the hole. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 17/64 inch (0.266 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 2-11/16 inches and a flute length of 1-1/2 inches, it fits tooling setups where stub-length rigidity is required. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with close-tolerance bores rely on this geometry for accurate, repeatable results.
This drill bit is rated for use in titanium as the primary workpiece material, making it suitable for aerospace, precision machining, and heavy industrial maintenance applications where standard HSS bits underperform. The screw machine length format provides increased rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole and spot-drilling operations. The 2.5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in interrupted or deep-entry passes. It is sold individually and is appropriate for both CNC tooling setups and manual drill press use.
Designed as a Series R42C screw machine length drill bit conforming to ANSI and NAS 907 specifications, suited for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 17/64 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified maintenance technicians familiar with metal-cutting operations. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout before drilling titanium or other work-hardening materials. Always use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to preserve cutting edge life. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the split point or flute margins show damage.
